Freight chains
Work freight chains day to day — filter and sort the chain list, open a chain's sheet to read its profit-and-loss, schedule and compliance, save a proposal, assign or release trucks, take it to outreach, and build a chain by hand with the chain builder.
Freight chains are how TOVR turns scattered loads into profitable routes. This guide covers working them day to day. Chains live in three places:
- the Freight Chains page — every chain, as a list of cards;
- the chain builder — assemble a chain yourself, from the Build Chain button;
- the Schedule — chains laid against your trucks' time, where a win is confirmed.
The chain list
Freight Chains in the sidebar opens a full-width list of chain cards. Each card shows the chain's segments, the trucks on it, and its economics together, so you can compare chains without opening them.
It opens on Live chains — everything still going somewhere (proposed, assigned, or in transit). The status menu also offers In execution (assigned or in transit), All (live plus completed), and each status on its own: proposed, assigned, in transit, and completed. Cancelled and expired chains are not listed.
A Saved / Proposed toggle sits in front of the filters: the chains you have kept, or the ones the platform has proposed. The other filters narrow by:
- Truck — needs a truck, has a candidate, or awarded;
- Shipments — a single shipment or combined (two or more);
- Load type — all full loads, all part loads, a mix, or nobody stated;
- Location and Date — where and when the chain's shipments are;
- Money — ranges for profit margin, profit, and revenue per kilometre, plus whether a chain is priced yet and how far its costs can be trusted;
- Risk — cabotage status, driver-hours feasibility, how soon a proposal expires, and a range for empty share.
Sort by newest, margin, profit, revenue per kilometre, empty share, distance, scheduled start, expiry, or number of shipments, ascending or descending, to work the most valuable chains first.
Open a chain
View details on a card opens the chain's sheet. Its address is part of the page URL
(?chain=<id>), so a link to it opens the same chain for a teammate.
The top of the sheet stays in place as you scroll: the chain's route (or its name), its actions, and which truck it is committed to — or that no truck is committed yet. Once a truck is committed, it also shows the chain's revenue, cost, profit, and margin.
Below it come any feasibility warnings and risk flags, then Who runs this chain? — the trucks that could take it, where you commit one, pick another, or Release an awarded truck. Then three sections you can expand:
- Where the money goes — the per-leg profit-and-loss: fuel, tolls, driver, vignettes, and border costs where a chain has any. These come from the cost engine and are specific to the assigned vehicle. When there is no vehicle, or the vehicle has no specs on file, the sheet says the chain is not priced to this truck and was priced against the engine's default profile.
- Route & schedule — the route stop by stop, and when each stop happens.
- Compliance — driving, rest and idle hours, the feasibility check with any driver warnings, and cabotage where a leg is cabotage. A chain that has never been checked says so.
From a shipment's segment you can open that shipment's own detail sheet.
Act on a chain
On the Freight Chains page:
- Save a chain the platform proposed to keep it. Un-saving it puts it back in Proposed. (Dismissing a proposal is done on the Schedule.)
- Assign / manage vehicles — pick the trucks for the chain. The chain is re-priced for them.
- Take this chain, in the sheet, moves a proposed chain you have kept or built to assigned.
- Release, in the sheet, frees an awarded truck after you confirm: the chain goes back to proposed and its legs are un-assigned, so the freight can be won again.
- Outreach (on the card) or Open outreach (in the sheet) — work the chain with the carriers and contacts behind it (see procurement and outreach).
- Rename a chain from the pencil on its card, and add, remove, or reorder its segments.
Deleting a chain is done in the chain builder, from its Chain actions menu.
Confirming a win — the moment freight is secured, which is tied to commission — happens on the Schedule, or from the outreach drawer for a proposed chain. The AI dispatcher can also drive it (fOS).
Build a chain by hand
Build Chain, pinned at the top of the sidebar, opens the chain builder. It has a visual mode and a list mode (switch with Ctrl/⌘+Shift+L): pick the shipments and a vehicle, and TOVR routes each leg and works out the revenue, loaded and empty kilometres, and each vehicle's deadhead. Add or remove shipments and vehicles to see them change. Full cost-engine pricing runs once the chain is saved with its vehicles.
You can also start a chain from the Shipments list with Add to chain.
Do it with fOS
Ask fOS: "what's the best backhaul for truck B-123 out of Frankfurt?" — it finds the chain, reads its economics, and can make the offer.
Schedule
The Schedule is your fleet over time — one lane per own truck with the loads it carries, the gaps where it is free, and an offer pool of proposed chains beside it. Search trucks and chains, change the time range, fill a gap, assign a chain to a truck, and confirm a win.
Fleet
Manage the supply side on the My Fleet page — one table of your trucks, with drivers, trailers, and insurance one click away under Manage. Add a truck with the four-step wizard, state what it can carry, declare where and when it is free, and set the cost model under Settings › Costs & margins.
